Theres been speculation that we may not be able to use flying mounts right away in Northrend, what do you guys think of this? I see why this might be the case, if nobody goes on the ground you don't get to experience the new environments, plus it makes things a whole lot easier to just fly over mobs. I'm guessing there will be some kind of weather restrictions that cause you to dismount in certain or all areas of Northrend and maybe once you hit level 80 is when you can use your mount.
Yeah, I've heard information like that as well. I figure you're gonna have to pay to defrost their wings so they can fly again... Wouldn't that suck?
Anyways, yeah, I wonder how they're gonna pull it off. All of the ideas I've seen are a bit too far out there to explain why we can't use our flyers until 78-80ish range (I heard that number somewhere and it stuck in my mind).
Yeah 78-80 is probably reasonable, 68 was when I got my druid flying form so it'd make sense. Maybe it will be a new riding skill to be able to ride in the harsh environment or something.
It sucks but it makes sense for a lot of reasons. I am almost posotive you guys are correct in that nasty weather will be the excuse for not being able to use our current mounts and we will have to retrain and buy stupid expensive mounts at 78 to have the privelage of flight in northrend. The new flying mounts will probably be "stronger" or maybe animals that are more suited to the environement
I think they could loosen things up a bit by making flight paths more versatile for folks who come in with thier epic flyers though. Maybe there are more paths available or FP that go to key areas that you can only get to with your epic flyer. Just toss a bone to the ppl that forked over 5k for thier epics even if it is just a small advantage.
But if WOTLK is anything like BC everything you get in the first hour of play will replace all the stuff you worked on for months before the expansion came out hehe.
So if we can't get flying mounts in Northrend until 78-80 how sweet would it be if we could get faster land mounts for short money sometime sooner?
Here is another idea that Blizz might come up with to explain no flying mounts in northrend. Maybe you CAN use your flying mounts from the outlands BUT there are flying MOBs. So you really cant effectively fly any where unless you have a battle flyer that you cant get until level 78. That would introduce in flight combat! (Imagine the PvP possibilities there...)
Now that may be a litte far fetched but I would really enjoy that!
Mount combat would be cool but im not real sure how they would implement it. Could you cast and shoot while riding? and for hand to hand would there be sort of a lock on the players so they dont shoot off if the hit the mouse?
Yeh...apparently there is a nice long quest chain that takes you through Northerend to show you about and get you familiar with the place.
Im happy to have no flying mount...d like to experience the new area properly.
cant be weather restrictions surely, how can someone who is level 71 in the same zone as a 78 experience different weather, No amount of science can roleplay that one away!!
I dont have an epic flyer on any of my 70's anyway, im too lazy to farm that much cash:P

In this scenario the weather wouldnt have to be different it would be the mount that was different.
