Default Hunter builds

I just started a Nigh Elf Hunter.

People say that the Beast Mastery build is the best for Pve and Grinding. But I'm thinking of going for Marksmanship...seems like you do more damage even early on? Wont the damage output for you and pet combined be more than in BM?

Also what a good profession to learn? I was thinking leatherworking so that I can make armor later on?

I have two points of view on this one. First off my hunter is 40 ish.

My first pov is that I thought the exact same thing spect, marksmanship = more damage. So I went with marksmanship and I do quite well for myself. SO maybe it is better early on. I am not sure as I have never tried a different spec so I have nothing to compare it to.

My second pov is that when I log into my alts I spend a lot of time randomly /w friends or other players that are accomplished in that particular class asking them the ins and outs. I have not talked to single accomplished hunter that has ever said anything but go beast mastery for leveling and pve and I have spoken to quite a few. One is even a hunter NUT and has multiple hunters of different races (wich I will never quite understand). But case and point some folks I talk to might be speaking of the "old days" long ago when they were leveling. But on top of thier testimony I have the hunter nut who really knows what they are talking about AND is currently leveling a hunter.

I have to try it. I will respec BM after I finish off my priest mage and warrior to 70. Should be a couple months but when I have a chance to experiement I will let you know what I think.

Thanks!

I'll probably listen you (and the hunter nut )and concentrate on BM. But is it advisable to put points in other trees? Most of the marksmanship specialites look really lucrative..especially Aimed Shot...

Aimed shot is garbage in my opinion and no it usually pays off especially at lower levels to stick with one tree.

I haven't played a hunter but when I am playing a class for the first time I like to take a look at WoWWiki to check out the different builds. Usually there is a leveling build listed among all the level 70 builds.

Ive studied this fairly recentley due to finally deciding to take my hunter to 70. Without getting to anal about the sums BM is higher damage output but this largley due to the shot rotation and how effecient it is to have your put do a large chunk of the damage. Your pet will need to have a good focus dump ability. What it doesnt take into account atleast for raiding is the added dps of either expose weakness in the survival tree or true shot aura in the marks tree.

To sum it up for you for sustained damage over time BM is better (arguable BM still has awsome burst with the talent beast whithin), For burst damage and high crit rate Marks is better, for raids that already have a marks hunter and want a further raid buff survival is good but its unlikely many guilds would choose a hunter soley for it.

You should definatley get aimed shot as its a prerequsite for mortal shots just be aware that in the time it takes to take 1 aimed shot you could of fired 2 auto shots and 1 steady. Aimed is really only any good if you use it as an opener in PVP (remeber to start spamming arcane about 2 seconds before it completes its cast).

Thanks guys

I have reached lvl10 and started the pet quest. What kind of pet is best with hunter and where do i go to tame it?

I'm thinking cat, but since night elf racial mout is a nightsaber, i feel like going with another pet just to break the monotony.

Also, what exactly is focus dump ability?

Focus is what your pet will use to activate special attacks. Its basically the same as a rogue or if you like a bit like a mana bar. A focus dump ability is any ability that has no cool down so your pet can "dump" all his focus by spamming his attacks without waiting for it to recharge.

For just about every peice of info you could ever want or need on pets look here mate:

Depends on the beast you choose to tame, Gore has no CD and works for ravagers and Boars. Screech has no CD and works for bats and owls. I cant access the site from work but thats off the top of my head.
