Last night was my first run of Gruul's Lair and my first 25-man raid. It was basically a PUG within our guild as there was no signup, and we had a few players from other guilds.
Well first there was high king Maulgar, after a little confusion and just general newness we wiped on our first try. But we came on strong the 2nd shot and downed him and his crew.
Had some trouble on Gruul himself though. We wiped a couple of times and had some trouble with the respawns because people would randomly go afk so it took forever to buff, not to mention we had a 6 year old in our group, well he said he was 11 but in vent thats not what he sounded like. So we never did down gruul, they decided to call it. But hopefully next week or whenever I'll get another shot at him. Who else here has done gruuls?
Gruul is a pretty easy fight....only thing different if tanks and especially DPS are priority you need to DPS him down before like 13 growths (unless you guys have a BT geared tank). 1 healer per group, as little Melee DPS as possible, stay out of cave in's, dont stand near one another after a stomp so on so on.
Also a glitch.....get ur tank to pull the guy within 30-41 yards of a wall and have your ranged DPS (seperated to not take explosion damage) standing on the GRAY rock along the wall as long as your on the gray rock you will not be thrown around will just stand still (but still turn to stone)
Ya I went with Jeff as well. It was my 2nd Gruul fight. And yea arrow we had ranged go behind the rocks to avoid the hit. Basically i think we wiped from lack of coordination and overall player awareness. There were some "noobs" who didnt really know what to do and werent 25 man material(ppl running towards me during the stomp). Anyway, yeah hopefully we get him down this Saturday so i can get mah phat t4 lewts!!!11
Well damn our guildies need to get better at showing up. We had a gruuls planned for last night at 8, and I said I had to leave by 9, and we didn't start till 9 >.< So I didn't get to go. Man I want those t4 shoulders!
This past Saturday we ran Gruuls and we cleared it but I was still pretty disappointed because the [Pauldrons of the Fallen Defender] didn't drop, instead 2 of one of the other tokens dropped. UGH.
Lol i did gruuls with this guild about a month ago was only in guild for like 20 minutes went to gruuls and won the roll on a dragonspine trophy...the guild acctually split up the next day because so many players were pissed that they let me roll, so i ended up walking away with a dragonspine trophy and an excuse to leave the drama filled guild
I did Gruul's about a week or so ago. I went along as a healer in an attempt to get one of the Tier tokens, with what was apparently a guild run that was about half pug, half guild (I thought it was a pug). I rolled on two T4 pieces (a shoulder off of King whatever his name is, and a leg off of Gruul), and won the roll on the leg. The really annoying thing is, the guild didn't tell me that only people in the guild were allowed to roll, even though I had already rolled once on the shoulders. So I won the roll, and the loot master didn't give it to me.
I was pissed off, so bad. Not because I didn't get the loot, but because the group didn't bother to mention that I wasn't allowed to roll until after I had already won. I wasted an hour and a half coming along for nothing, since the only thing I wanted out of Gruul's was the tier tokens. There wasn't really anything I could do besides complain, so I left after grabbing my badges, and I'm never doing anything with that guild again, no matter that several of my friends are in there or not.
The loot master of that guild said that a whole lot of guilds do this, and don't give away tier tokens. I understand the reasoning. My guild doesn't follow this philosophy, but I understand why. I'm pissed off they didn't warn me before hand, so I wouldn't be wasting my time.
Sorry for the rant, it just came back to me after seeing this thread.
That really does suck, when I got my t4 shoulders it was the same situation of a half guild half pug but they let everyone have a chance at loot. Sorry to hear about that.
Gruul's not that hard, considering it's just a couple of patrols and then Maulgar. Then you kill the ogre, and you just have to face a couple of pats to get to Gruul, so it just takes some wipes to get the strategy and sweep him out of his own cave.
When you're doing Karazhan, SSC or The Eye, you're facing several bosses with very different tactics to beat them. You CAN'T do the whole Karazhan in 3 hours, even if you're just rushing it for alts it will take more to get rid of the different pats, kill each boss.
Gruul is just getting there and trying to kill him until the glory comes.
