Weapon for priest?

Seems like the idea wpn for priest would be Staff..so why do we start with maces?

Well really as a priest you just want whatever gives you the best stats since you'll never really be in melee. I see lots of priests using maces + offhand at 70.

Priests are supposed to be the best healers in the game, and the majority of healing weapons seem to be maces. Or at least, that's how I've always thought of it. And later in the game, one-hand weapons with an off-hand are usually better than a staff of the same general item level.
