Default Death Knight races

Do you think any race will be able to be a death knight, or will it be restricted to certain races?

My best guess is that while any race can unlock the ability to be a death knight, when you create your death knights you can only be humans for the alliance and undead for horde, I think it makes the most sense that way. Because they've said they plan to release 1 new hero class per expansion, I think they'll give 1 race per faction a hero class per expansion.

I don't think they'll do that. Again, if I can remember correctly, one of the Blue's on the forums said it wouldn't be fun that way. And anyways, lore wise, Orcs would be better Death Knights, since they've actually been DK's before (in WC2, there were orc death knights, they were just put into the dead body of a human).

Oh yeah I had forgotten about that. I haven't played WC2 in soooo long I hardly remember anything about it. I didn't think it was as good as 3. So maybe you're right then, maybe it will be any race.

I could also be crazy, I'm honestly not sure which one it is. But yeah, I hope its all races, BEs need a really good tanking class, since pally tanks are really behind on the gear and itemization stuff (there's no really well itemized pally tanking weapons besides [Crystalforged Sword] or shields, at all).

Yeah it sucks how BEs don't have warriors, but I guess it kind of makes sense since they're addicted to magic.

Well, they can be rogues, who don't have magic, so all of them can't be addicted. Anyways, BE's need an actual proper tanking class, so hopefully they'll get one with the X-Pac (although I'm not too sure, since DK's can't use shields. I wonder how they're gonna pull tanking off without one).

Well the more and more I think about it the more I think it will be all races, because we've seen undead, human, and orc DKs in past warcraft games, and if paladins can become DKs then dwarves and possible BEs and Draeni...I just hate the picture of a gnome DK with pink hair...

Well, they've also already got a dwarf DK, in Naxx, so I figure they'll be able to be them.

I think a gnome DK with pink hair would be amusing.

Good point, I had been thinking dwarf DKs had been in the lore but I couldn't remember where so I didn't mention it.

The KOTSH were great Paladins in Azeroth, with Humans, Dwarves and (Egad!) High Elves in their ranks. After Arthas fell from the Scourge, some grouped with The Scarlet Crusade, some established The Argent Dawn, some allied with their respective factions, and some sought more power..and became Death Knights. In Warcraft II, Gul'dan, cornered by the then Warchief, promised him powerful warriors, and created the first Deathknights from the bodies of fallen warriors of Stormwind and the souls of the Shadow Council.
So, this relates to four races that are sort of a given. We have seen the Orc, Human, and Dwarf races of Death Knights in-game. Teron Gorefiend is an Orc, there's a drawf in Naxx and multiple in the world that are Humans, I mean Arthas, duh, and the existance of High Elves being former Paladins and their addiction to Arcane Magic gives us an idea that their lust for further power would tempt them to the Scourge.
Now, for Gnomes, Draenei, Tauren and Trolls..I don't see that happening.
